“A Jewel for a Woman of Italian Risorgimento” is an interesting and singular show, supported and sponsored by Milan Municipality –Councillor’s office of Productive Activities – and organized by the Cultural and Artistic Association Iperbole in collaboration with some goldsmith’s Masters. The event takes place in the prestigious “Urban Center” in Vittorio Emanuele Gallery, right in the centre of Milan, from February 13th to 26th 2012.

“A Jewel for a Woman of Italian Risorgimento” is an event which gives visibility to our customs and historical, artistic and cultural origins; it has been developed after the great success of the 3rd Edition of “Masters of the Jewel”, a show of goldsmith’s handicrafts of high quality, which took place at the Palazzina Liberty in Milan from October 7th to 10th 2011. The show was visited by thousands of people coming from all over Italy and abroad, and it was particularly appreciated because of its great goldsmiths, who through their creative abilities and their work techniques realized unique jewels that suit all tastes.

During the last Edition there were also art-jewels realized for the “Jacopo da Trezzo” content of 2011, whose title was “A Jewel for a Woman of Italian Risorgimento” (which then gives the name to the current show). To participate to this content the goldsmiths were asked to realize a unique piece of jewel, drawing inspiration from one or more  famous women who played an important role during the Italian Risorgimento. Thus, the craftsmen/artists gathered information about the historical and cultural aspects of those times and about the most important women.

Here are some of the names of the women of Risorgimento, from whom the goldsmiths drew inspiration for the realization of their jewels: Adelaide Bono di Belgirate Cairoli, Anita Garibaldi, Anna Schiaffino Giustiniani, Antonietta De Pace, Clara Carrara Spinelli Maffei, Costanza Arconati, Eleonora Curlo Ruffini, Enrichetta Caracciolo, Giuditta Bellerio Sidoli, Giulia Colbert Falletti di Barolo, Maria Clotilde di Savoia, Maria Cristina Trivulzio di Belgioioso, Maria Teresa Serego Alighieri Gozzadini, Olimpia Rossi Savio, Teresa Casati Gonfalonieri, Virginia Oldoini, contessa di Castiglione. The result of this research and of this original source of inspiration is the realization of jewels of different styles: modern, antiquate, classic and innovative.

The content “Jacopo da Trezzo” has been set up since the 1st Edition of the event “Masters of the Jewel”, in order to remember the famous goldsmith of Renaissance Jacopo da Trezzo, who first cut and worked a diamond. He is the symbol of the artisan of high quality throughout the world. The current craftsmen show a continuity with the great goldsmith of the past, and this is an evidence of the high quality of the Italian and Lombard goldsmith’s handicrafts throughout the time.

The content “Jacopo da Trezzo” aims to create a link and a continuity between the excellent Italian goldsmith’s art of the past and that of the current years. Thus, it is important to create the right conditions, so that the artists of every time can freely express themselves and become popular.

The jewels showed at the exhibition “ A jewel for a Woman of Italian Risorgimento” are only unique handmade specimen.

The show “A Jewel for a woman of Italian Risorgimento” offers a unique experience: here you can admire the wonderful and prestigious artistic creations made by the Masters, you can know and watch some demonstrations made by the artists while they are working and using their working techniques. You will discover what “beauty” is: a value, a cultural aspect and a way of living according to the principles of honesty and ethical character.

The event aims also to support and promote the sector of goldsmith’s handicrafts of high quality, and to preserve the antique goldsmith’s tradition which risks to get lost. “A Jewel of a Woman of Italian Risorgimento” also wishes to stimulate public, retailers, jewels agents and all the people who love, wear and buy jewels, so that they learn to understand and recognize talented people, to interact with artists and to make new suggestions to the artists. In this way new, customized, unique and original jewels - which are all different from each other - are realized. In this context of mutual exchange, new collaborations with schools and young people who are starting to work in this field can begin; moreover, it would be possible to develop a deeper understanding among the public about the artistic handicrafts and about the profession of goldsmiths and artists.
